| PHYSICAL FEATURES: situated in the middle and down reaches of
Yellow River, most of the areas is in the south of Yellow River, the
terrain is higher in the west and lower in the east, with Taihang
Mountain in the north and Yao Mountain, Xionger Mountain in the west,
Tongbei Moutain, Dabie Mountain in the south; its three sides is
embraced by hill lands, plain area is in the east, Nanyang Basin is in
the south. Main water system is Yellow River and Huai River. |
| CLIMATE: Funiu Mountain is the climatic boundary, in its
north, is temperate climate; in its south, is subtropical continental
monsoonal climates; chilly, long winter without much snow and rain, dry
spring and summer with plenty rainfall; |

| RESOURCES: coal is the main resource, there are big coalmines
spreading from Hebi, Jiaozuo, on Taihang Mountain in the north to
Pindingshan on Funiu Mountain in the south; other resources are iron and

| ECONOMY IN BRIEF: chief industries are metallurgy, coal,
machinery, electric power, chemistry, textile, tobacco, oil pressing,
flour, food etc; |
| Main wheat producing area in China, as well as drought crops, paddy
and cotton, tussah, Shuanpi ork etc; the output of sesame and tobacco
tops in China; Funiu Mountain is one of the four places of producing
tussah; |
| Renowned Livestock are Nanyang south cow, Biyang duckey, Xinmi cold

| Local specials are Funiu tussah, Xinzheng Chinese date, Xinyang
